Jay Scarola

Before entering the courier industry Julius ‘Jay’ Scarola spent 9 years in pin stripes working for the Chrysler Corporation.  During that time he ascended to Fleet Distribution Manager and was promoted to General Manager and at the time was the youngest on the east coast.  In 1976, Jay joined Grace Courier Services in New York city as General Manager.  Over the years with Grace he opened offices from Massachusetts to Virginia, instilling into all operations his high standards and work ethic to the business of servicing the customer.  During the early 80s Jay became Executive Vice President of Grace and a corporate officer.  He moved to Virginia to grow the business in the Mid Atlantic.

He began his membership in MCAA in 1986, at its inception and as a founding member with Grace Courier.   Over the next 10 years Jay was a board member and served on numerous positions and committees.  Jay was voted in as President of MCAA 1994 and re-elected for a 2nd term in 1995.  In 1994 Grace Courier merged with several other companies to form U. S. Delivery where he held the positions of Vice President of Government & Legal Affairs and Regional Vice President – Mid Atlantic with a territory covering New Jersey to North Carolina.  He was a member of U.S. Delivery’s acquisition team which was responsible for growth through purchases.  In 1998, for many years contributing to MCAA’s growth and development with many courier companies throughout the country, Jay was the recipient of the MCAA Founders Award.

In 1999, Jay formed his own company, Dedicated Delivery Systems in Columbia, MD, in partnership with Larry and James Day of Jet Messenger.  In 2000, Jay led the expansion, along with the Day’s, and creation of a 2nd company, American Eagle Delivery, in Richmond, VA.

Jay describes himself (confirmed by all around him) that he is a traditional Italian with old fashion values.  One who is self-disciplined, focused and hard working.  He has always been concerned about people who his environment brings him into contact with in both his business and personal lives, evident from his high level of community activities over the years.  Ranging from police training, serving as Vice President of Springfield’s Youth Club and Board member of Fairfax County’s Chamber of Commerce.

Jay is still living and loving the business, but as always, more so now, family is king.  He still finds the time to merge into his complex schedule, car & truck acquisitions (fanatical), travel (domestic and international) and continuous development of gastronomy and palette education for rums and single malts.
